The Past of the Future

I catch myself either thinking of the past or thinking of the future. My minds natural tendency is to return to what it has lived. When I catch myself living in the past I jump to the future. To what I want my future to be. And that’s what most of our coaches, motivational speakers tell us to do right? To have a vision and “dream” about it. I’ve even done the letter they tell you to write detailing what the best year of your life looks like a year from now. What I found interesting in the way that I was doing it, was that even though I was thinking about the future I was still looking back from the future. I was still focusing on the past, just in a different time period.

Focusing on the past is normal. It is something that God has gifted us with. The problem with the past is that we linger in it. We stay there, trying to change it, wishing it was different. When I jumped to the future and looked back, I was trying to figure out how, I was trying to come up with the answer, thus causing anxiety in me. I was trying to figure out how I was going to get to my best year. I was still controlling my life.

When we are visionaries we look towards the future and that gives us hope, but if we are looking towards the future to live the past are we really changing things or will we really change what we are currently doing? No, we are just changing the time, whether it is 2025 or 2050. Bottom line is that we have to learn to “experience” the present and the future. Looking to the past is our natural tendency, but its for us to take what we learned from it. If we enjoyed something, we repeat it. If we didn’t enjoy something we learn from it and try our best not to repeat it.

The now is all we have, whether it is present or in the future. I am learning to look to the future and live the “now” that I want to experience in the future. It’s time to detach ourselves with the past. Live in the now.

Blessings.

Until soon,

Seven Streams CashFlow is more than a platform for wealth-building tools and youth entrepreneurship skills. It is a faith-driven movement and a thriving community where like-minded families grow, give, and build legacy together.

Seven Streams CashFlow was born out of a personal mission to rebuild life, finances, and legacy after divorce, not just for myself but with my two boys by my side. What started as a way to teach my kids about faith, money, and business turned into a powerful movement that equips families everywhere to do the same. Together we created more than a platform. We created a vision for the next generation.
